In KS2 children learn French developing an awareness of the culture and the language through listening attentively to spoken language and showing an understanding by joining in and responding.

French is taught through exploring the patterns and sounds of language through songs and rhymes and linking the spelling, sound and meaning of words. The scheme we use builds linearly throughout the four years and through regular opportunities to listen to native speakers, exposes the children to authentic French.

As their French language develops the children will begin to show an understanding of basic grammar, write short sentences adapting the language they know to describe people, places, transport, festivals and celebrations.
