The National Curriculum
At St Joseph’s we aim to organise learning through a cross-curricular, skills based, topic based approach. This embraces many of the subjects of the National Curriculum, although Maths and English are also taught as discrete subjects when this is more appropriate.
The National Curriculum requires schools to teach three core subjects: English, Mathematics and Science; and eight foundation subjects: History, Geography, Art and Design, Computing, Music, Design Technology, Physical Education and Languages.
In our curriculum planning, we produce schemes of work that identify appropriate content, teaching and learning activities in each subject area to meet the Attainment Targets and the Programmes of Study as laid down in the National Curriculum.
We ensure the activities are matched to the individual needs, development and ability of the children.
