Virtues and Values

At St. Joseph’s we believe our faith permeates all we do, for and with our children. This means we see it as our fundamental duty to understand who God called us to be, so that we can fulfill our God-given potential, and set the world on fire.

The Archdiocese of Birmingham’s Catholic Schools Pupil Profile is an important aspect of our faith life and faith journey, helping to focus our actions on others.

The values and virtues are taken from the Jesuit Institute which is rooted in the teachings of St. Ignatius. They have created a Pupil Profile in which eight complementary words have been placed together.

Each half term, we are focusing on a different pair of words and thinking about how we can grow more like Jesus in our daily lives.

Grateful & Generous

Grateful for our own gifts, for the gift of other people, and for the blessings of each day; and generous with their gifts, now and in the future.

Attentive & Discerning

Attentive to their experience and to their vocation; and discerning about the choices they make and the effects of those choices. 
 

 Compassionate & Loving

Compassionate towards others, near and far, especially the less fortunate; loving by their just actions and forgiving words.
 

 Faith-filled & Hopeful

Faith-filled in their beliefs and Hopeful for the future.
 

Eloquent & Truthful

Eloquent and truthful in what they say of themselves, the relations between people and the world.
 

Learned & Wise

Learned, finding God in all things; and wise in the ways they use their learning for the common good.
 

Curious & Active

Curious about everything; and active in their engagement with the world, changing what they can do for the better.
 

Intentional & Prophetic

Intentional in the way they live and use the resources of the earth, guided by conscience; and prophetic in the example they set to others.
